David M.A.P. Palmquist

David M.A.P Palmquist was born in 1979
in Copenhagen. He studied the horn with Helge Nielsen and played in the
Tivoli Boys’ Guard from 1988 to 1994, after which he began his musical
studies at the Carl Nielsen Academy in Odense, Denmark, still studying
under Helge Nielsen and later with Poul-Erik Vilsbæk, solo horn with the
Royal Opera in Copenhagen. David M.A.P Palmquist graduated as music
teacher in 1998 and took his diploma exam the following year.
Concurrently with his general studies, David M.A.P Palmquist also
completed studies in Early Music at the Academy, with Professor Jan
Schroeder (Hannover) and Lowell Greer (USA). These studies were
completed with yet another diploma exam in the spring of 2001. David
M.A.P Palmquist studied in the soloist class from the fall 2000 at the
Royal Danish Academy of Music with Ola Nilsson, solo horn with the Royal
Opera, from which he made his debut in the fall of 2002. David M.A.P
Palmquist has been studying in the soloist class at Hochschule für Musik
und Theater in Hannover with Professor Jan Schroeder since 2004.
David M.A.P Palmquist won the audition for 3rd horn in Odense Symphony
Orchestra in January 2000, 2nd solo horn with the Danish National Radio
Light Orchestra in May 2000, 3rd/1st horn in the Danish National
Symphony Orchestra in September 2000, and finally the 1st solo horn
position in the Danish National Symphony Orchestra in May 2003, where he
is currently playing.
In addition to his position with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra,
David M.A.P Palmquist also gives soloist performances both with
professional orchestras, chamber orchestras and baroque ensembles. He
recently recorded a solo concerto with the Danish National Symphony
Orchestra and among his earlier concert performances are Richard
Strauss’ Concerto No. 2 for horn and the Danish first performance of
Hamburgisches Konzert for horn by György Ligeti.
David M.A.P Palmquist is very active within chamber music: he is a
member of the brass quintet, Art of Brass Copenhagen, and is a founding
member of the wind quintet Carion. Both ensembles have won several
awards in Danish as well as International competitions throughout the
last couple of years. Both ensembles are very active, engaging both in
recordings, tours and concerts in Denmark and abroad. When there is
nothing else to do David M.A.P Palmquist arranges and composes music in
his home in Hellerup, Copenhagen. |
